Job Overview
The General Manager will oversee all business operations, including strategic planning, team leadership, financial management, and client relations, while actively participating in technical installations and repairs. This role requires a unique blend of business management expertise and technical proficiency in irrigation systems to ensure seamless seasonal operations, compliance, and expansion opportunities in sustainable technologies.

Duties

• Oversee daily operations of the service department, including scheduling appointments, preparing quotations and invoices, and managing customer relations to maintain long-standing residential and commercial accounts.
• Lead and supervise a team of skilled irrigation technicians, including hiring, training, dispatching, and monitoring performance to ensure efficient routing and high-quality service delivery.
• Perform and direct hands-on installations, maintenance, and repairs of irrigation systems and landscape lighting, troubleshooting issues and ensuring systems meet water efficiency standards.
• Manage financial aspects, including budgeting, profitability analysis, inventory control, and off-season cash flow planning to offset winter downtime.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with Ontario water conservation bylaws, backflow prevention, and environmental standards under the Ontario Water Resources Act.
• Identify growth opportunities, such as adopting smart irrigation tech, expanding client base, and optimizing recurring contracts.

Experience

• 5-10 years of experience in the irrigation industry, with hands-on expertise in installations, repairs, and system design; certifications like Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA) or WaterSense Irrigation Partner (WSIP) highly desirable.
• Proven track record in business management, preferably in landscaping, construction, or property management, with experience overseeing teams and operations in a seasonal environment.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., business, horticulture, or engineering) is an asset.
• Strong leadership, communication, time management, and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Sage or Salesforce preferred.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, seasonal setting, with physical capability for field work and knowledge of GTA market dynamics.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
